The Challenge

Shopping malls are purpose-built real-estate developments, providing a consumer-focused, controlled location for shopping and entertainment. A successful retail development needs to provide an accessible, comfortable, yet secure environment to attract both high-street brand tenants and consumers. Typically this type of development has integrated transportation links and ample car parking and contains a mix of shops, restaurants, entertainment facilities and public areas.

Controlling and monitoring security, life and safety systems, HVAC and information signage for a near 24/7 operation, are key priorities. In addition, each retail outlet and facility will have independent HVAC and lighting requirements; there is a need for sophisticated physical and site security and access and there may be facilities that are closely co-ordinated with emergency service agencies to effectively manage major incidents.
